How does theft and breakage insurance work?Updated 3 months ago
Why Should I Protect My E-Bike Against Theft or Damage?
Most home insurance policies offer limited coverage for bikes. Theft inside your home due to a break-in is often covered, but theft outside is sometimes covered only if you’ve added a specific option.
We believe that protecting your bike against theft is essential if it has significant value, is stored outside (even during the day or for short periods), or is kept in shared spaces (even when secured with a lock).
What Incidents Are Covered by the Insurance?
1-Year Theft Insurance
- Theft of your bike due to vandalism, break-in, or smuggling, whether on the street or at home, 24/7.
- Theft of fixed accessories purchased with your bike (e.g., a child seat).
1-Year Theft and Damage Insurance
- All incidents covered by the theft insurance.
- Physical damage caused by accidents, vandalism, animals, or natural events.
Your insurance also provides global coverage, protecting your bike against theft or damage while abroad.
How Am I Compensated for a Claim?
Theft Compensation
If your bike is stolen, you will be reimbursed for the purchase price, with no deductible or depreciation. For example, if you bought a bike for €2,199 on our site and it’s stolen, you’ll receive the full amount back. Evy will verify this using your purchase invoice.
Damage Compensation
If your bike is damaged, we’ll help you locate a partner bike shop near you for repairs. We cover the full cost of repairs. If the bike is beyond repair, you’ll be reimbursed for the purchase value, with no deductible or depreciation.
What Incidents Are Not Covered?
Key exclusions include:
- Theft of wheels, tires, batteries, or accessories if stolen separately.
- Your bike must be secured to a fixed point and locked with an approved lock meeting one of the following requirements:
- U-lock: thickness of more than 12mm.
- Chain lock: thickness of at least 7mm.
- Folding lock: thickness of at least 5mm.
- BOA lock: thickness of at least 25mm.
- Cosmetic damage, accessory damage, or personal injury.
- Speed bikes, which are subject to different legal restrictions.
- There is no limit on the number of claims you can file, but the total reimbursement cannot exceed the purchase value of the bike.
How Do I Purchase Insurance?
Once you’ve added a bike to your cart, you can select one of the insurance policies. After completing payment via Ebikex, we’ll contact you by email to finalize your policy. (In accordance with insurance product regulations, we’ll request your date and place of birth.)
